Pasikudah
Eastern Province
A wide shallow bay on the east coast where the water stays waist-deep a long way out and there is nothing at all to do.
- How long
- 1 day is usually enough
- Best months
- April, May, June, July, August, September
Pasikudah is a crescent of shallow reef-protected water on the east coast, and its whole virtue is that nothing happens there.
The bay shelves so gently that you can wade a long way out and still stand. There is no surf and no current, which makes it one of the few stretches of Sri Lankan coast genuinely easy for weak swimmers and for children.
It works best as a pause rather than a destination — a night between the long drive down from Jaffna and the run south to Arugam Bay, with a morning that asks nothing of you.
